Can you only make money via the internet through selling things?

For example if you have your own website and want to make money out of it, is there a way which doesn't involve selling things??
Can you only make money via the internet through selling things?
You can sell things on a web site or places like eBay and Amazon.com. There are a few others but small. Craigslist is a good one for larger items.

You can be a web designer making web sites, blogs, videos, art work, layouts, etc for others. I myself do a mom n pop car dealers site and take care of their autotrader.com and cars.com accounts. Good pay for few hours a week.

You can have multiple sites up that are more or less worthless but filled with say Google AdSense ad's. Get a click here and there and you get a few pennies. The more sites, the more links the more that are clicked, the more you get paid. To me this is worse than flipping burgers and all you do is fill the web with worthless stuff that the rest of us later have to manage through.

You can use the web as say a answering service or a out source of some sort. Like say you are an expert with car lease information. Make a site and make it so people can either IM you or call you from the site and talk live. Charge flat fee for the service to assist them. I myself can't believe more therapists aren't online so they can just stay home and do it all via conferrance calls in way.

You could even set yourself up as a server. Meaning you have web space that you sell off your computer, normally you put a few towers side by side. And you sit back and let people buy space for their sites, etc. Figure basic tower is $600 for 100gig. Avg price is $9.95 for say 1 gig. Or that one tower brings in $985 per month. Paid for itself twice over.

Money is everywhere... just think outside the box, don't listen to most who throw links or sites at you and ignore the want ad's.
Reply:Aside from selling on the website, others such as About.com or EuropeforVisitors.com create content and monetize their content in a number of ways:

a. Advertising - there are several ways you can earn money from advertising:

1. Join an advertising network. Advertising networks are organizations that aggregate Web sites that offer advertising space, and sell banner ads (and other advertising options) across them. Traffic requirement is often a minimum of 5,000 monthly impressions, although many do not accept sites hosted by free page services.

2. Participate in contextual advertising networks. Contextual advertising are text ads delivered based on the content of the web page using an automated system.

3. Sell advertising for your site directly. This is admittedly a more difficult route for a small business site wanting to earn advertising revenues. But hey, as they say: "no pain, no gain!"

b. Affiliate Programs - you sell other people's products that your audience may be interested in; and you get a certain commission after the desired action was done (whether a sale, a lead, subscription to email newsletter, or however this is defined)

c. Paid online content. Hoovers.com or WebmasterWorld.com Supporters forum all require paid subscription before accessing the information

d. Content licensing and syndication. Some publishers such as the Associated Press get paid every time their content is published elsewhere
Reply:in business you do have to sell something :advertisments:products:labor: you need to invent something if you donot sell sonmething(?)
Reply:You can get google adwords on your site, or yahoo ads, or you can sign up as an affiliate with Clickbank. There you can find thousands of products to fit with any site. The actual selling is done by the mercheant, you only advertise. (And some mercheants have good tools and tell you how to do it best.)

good luck
