At night I find the need to purchase useless books. I convince myself that I need the book to help me sleep. I usually buy something useless, like something I already own.
How do I stop?
I have chronic insomnia, at night I spend money on the Internet. How do I stop?
get a sleep aide,(sominex), cancel your paypal acct. and close off the credit card your purchasing with!
Reply:I suffer insomnia too... you aren't alone!! But try to force yourself to sleep, clean up your bed, drink some sleepytime tea and put yourself to bed with the lights,tv and computer off.
You could try talking to your credit card company to block all your internet purchases.
Reply:hide your credit card.
and get on some meds for the insomnia.
you might want to consider counselling for the compulsive shopping, too!
Reply:Instead of buying books or medications to treat your insomnia, it would be better to use the money to get yourself a aroma therapy kit a home. You can try hunting the kits at shopping centres or if you want research on them on-line before buying. Aroma therapy can helps to soothe your mind when you are stress thus enabling you to sleep at night.
Reply:I used to suffer from insomnia, all I did was take up a hobby, reading doesn't cut it for me. I also started using marijuana, and I have to say, no sleeping aid works that good, I wouldn't suggest it personally, but if you can't fall asleep with meds, you might wanna consider it, meds didn't work for me, because I have an overworking mind, I'm always thinking about something, and pot clears my mind and knocks me right out, I've never slept better, and never felt better in the morning too.
Reply:be motivated that you want to stop spending money on the Internet buying useless books..
Ask yourself how to do it? How if somebody else ask you the same question? I used to hv insomnia for a week and i finished it!!
Just like the answer I hv said to venica in this yahoo! answer too:
"I hv read a lot about this.. meditation, drugs, tips, etc. But this is the simplest one... This is the best solution I see..
First try not to think about anything, I hv just got this problem. I think a lot. How to stop your thinking? Write all your thinking down on a piece of paper.. List it! Then think that it's all written down so it's done and stop thinking about it! You can think it out the next day.
Then try to close your eyes.. Like in a children story book: "If you can not sleep, try to close your eyes"
It's my opinion, and I'm succeed.. Although it takes 5-30, it's better..
Have a nice sleep friend.. "
Reply:The combination of the two - insomnia and marathon impulse shopping are often signs of depression or manic depression. I'm an insomniac myself and I've felt the urge to purchase random stuff many times. Still do, though not as bad now. At one point in my life, I was stuck at my parent's house, in a dead end job, when I wanted to be at college. You should have SEEN the crap I drug home. It was worse because I worked at the mall. My point being, often we purchase stuff just for that little thrill we get in owning something bright, shiny, and new. I didn't know any of this until I came across my symptoms in a magazine. Once I realized I was trying to make myself feel better by purchasing worthless doody, it took a long time to break the habit. Good luck to you, my friend.
Reply:Leave yourself a sticky note on your computer, put a passcode on your credit card, something like 'Yes you need this book, no it's no joke, you're not sleepy" something to that effect (Most credit card companies will allow it). Add some extra added step to prevent identity theft online and off, which will make it harder for you to purchase, making it so you need to think before you spend.
If all else fails, get rid of paypal etc. and cut up your credit cards.
